We believe that God works to change lives. We believe that our trust in God helps us to see that mysterious change happening every day. When you walk through our doors, we hope that you, too, sense God's powerful presence among us. We are an inclusive community: we don't turn away anyone who seeks deeper faith in God and more fervent love of our neighbor. Come and experience God with us around the table at worship. All are welcome!

Library Teasers:
I don't know who wrote this or if there was a study or some statistical report out there, but it seems to make sense:
"The single biggest predicatory of high academic achievement is reading to children.  Not flash cards, not workbooks, not fancy preschools, not blinking toys or computers, but mom and dad taking time every day or night (or both) to sit and read them wonderful books."
That being said,  a reminder of the reading program where the children can earn books by reading or having books read to them, is in progress.  There are hundreds of books in the church library, more in your public library and maybe on the shelves at home, waiting to be explored.    We are eager to give away some new books to some St. John readers!
Also this month, July, will be an opportunity to pick up some library material that is being removed from the shelves.  It's free and yours for the taking and we hope you will put them to good use.
Take a book or two on vacation.......
HAPPY READING!! Enjoy your library & Blessings as always.  Enjoy Summer!!!

MORNING PRAYER SERVICE & BIBLE STUDY:
Morning Prayer, a morning service from the ELW worship book, includes hymns, psalms, scriptures and prayers.  It begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays, Bible study begins at approximately 10:30 a.m.   All are welcome to attend and share in this time of worship, study and fellowship.  Often the last Wednesday of the month we "get out of our box", take our time of prayer and study some place public, other than the comfortable confines of our church building.  We often share a time of eating and fellowship after our worship and study, but this is optional also.  Would you consider joining us on Wednesday for any or all of these following times: worship 10 a.m., study 10:30 p.m. and fellowship about 11;30 a.m.?

 June   2019

Dear Friends in Christ,
Today I am spending more time thinking about the situation the church in general is facing.  It is no longer the norm to go to church on Sundays as it was when I was a kid.  Back then all of us were there at least on Sunday and frequently on Sunday night and Wednesday afternoon and evening as well.  We felt like one group, one real family and it didn't matter if you went to Messiah Lutheran or St Joe's Catholic or Calvary Presbyterian, when they had an event we were all there.  One church, one body.
It reminds me of an insight my husband Bill had when we were first married.  If we are one body now, he said, what is good for one is ultimately good for both of us.  That played out in very practical terms.  If we functioned as one then if it was easier for him to do the laundry or cook a meal he did it no matter whose job or turn it was.  Sometimes when he was busy I would mow the lawn or get the car's oil changed or fix the dishwater.  When I felt depressed being at home with two toddlers, he suggested I go back to grad school and when he wanted to further his career; me already having a career made it possible for him to get his psychology degree.  It was true. When one of us benefited, we both were better off.  When one of us hurt, we both were hurt.  We both felt it.
I wonder if that is some of what Paul is suggesting when he writes about being the one body of Christ.  He's right, we all know that if we were all eyes, we would all be deaf.  If we were all hands, we would not be mobile.  But more than that, that when the church can come together and watch out for each other, the whole church is stronger.  It is true within each congregation and for the church as a whole.  I wonder if we all saw any congregation, any denomination, as part of our body where the church would be, how this world would be different.  We say one faith, one bread, one body.  If we believed it, what would that look like?
                    Peace in Christ,
                              Pastor Vicky
